When there’s an overnight parking ban this winter, make it your reFLEX to grab a FLEX car and keep it off-street for the night. In exchange, you get to use the car free of charge until the reFLEX event is over.*
The details and timing of each Winter Ban reFLEX will be sent out by email and social media when the City of Halifax announces an overnight parking ban.
*Free FLEX usage up to 100 km, 22¢ per additional km. Regular FLEX rates apply for any usage outside the hours of the reFLEX event.
How does it work?
Communauto Atlantic will announce the start and end times of a Winter Ban reFLEX event by email, Facebook and Twitter. Here’s how you can take part:
- Pick up a FLEX car.
- Drive the car as you wish (100 km free, 22¢ per additional km).
- Park the car off-street for the night (see parking details below) and keep the key with you.
- Once the parking ban is lifted, release the car as usual inside the FLEX zone where signage permits.
You can use a FLEX car as much as you want. However, if you have a FLEX car after 6pm you are responsible for keeping it off-street for the night.
Where can I park overnight?
You can park the FLEX car anywhere off-street where you have authorized access, such as your driveway. It does not have to be inside the FLEX zone.

- Brunswick Place
- Scotia Square Mall
If you choose to pay for off-street parking for your FLEX car during an overnight parking ban, you can submit a receipt for reimbursement. We will reimburse up to $25 per day during a parking ban. Please upload your receipt by going to your past reservations list and click “Add/View receipts”.
What if I’m using a FLEX car when a reFLEX is announced?
You can use a FLEX car as much as you want. However, if you have a FLEX car after 6pm you are responsible for keeping it off-street for the night. See parking options above.
Similar to regular parking conditions, members are responsible for any tickets or towing incurred.
What if I don’t release the car before a reFLEX ends?
Once the event ends, the usual FLEX rates go back into effect. Communauto Atlantic will announce the start and end time of each reFLEX in advance so you can plan ahead.
The free use offer is a time credit; the usual pricing continues to apply for the distance travelled: 100 km included per trip, 22¢ per additional km. The time and/or distance billed, if any, will be charged at the usual rate according to the terms of your package.
